Ska marked the true beginning of Jamaican popular music, coming to prominence during the early and mid-'60s right around the time the island was granted its independence. Ska ensembles were generally a blend of electric instrumentation and horns most .

There are some awesome songs on them, especially the first one, that stand up well on their own, as well as by comparison with the originals. posted by wenestvedt at PM on February 28,

The first disc is first-wave Jamaican ska of the 60s; it includes inspiring tunes like " Was My Number" and "Israelites" along with the irresistible " Shanty Town," "The Tide Is High," and "Rudy, a Message to You." The second disc is a nice overview of second-wave British ska of the late 70s and early 80s/5(19).

Jul 08,  · Alright, well, I can't answer with just one album, so I'll choose a few of my favorites. Early ska had some great bands and classic albums from legendary bands such as Desmond Dekker and the Aces, Toots and the Maytals, Bob Marley and the Wailers.

Oct 02,  · As a list on ska as a whole this is a terrible list. For one no mention of any 2-tone stuff like The Beat or The Specials or going even further back the original ska music from the Caribbean or artists/bands such as Desmond Dekker or Toots and the Maytals That being said, this is a decent third wave ska-punk list.

I don't own it, which makes it a bit difficult to add to my top ska albums. I own Godfather of Ska, Vol.3 ( - ), a near to perfection retrospective CD from Germany's premium Ska label Grover Records. No review available, write one and maybe you are in. [deleted] mentioned this album, which is without a doubt a big one. I don't own it.
